Almost clear amber beer, good pale tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth malts, a light creamy sweetness. Some of that edgy bitterness that the other non BA barleywine this brewer offers, but not as overwhelming. The barrel aging adds dimension and takes the edge of this one. A trace of vanilla oak and a light bretty vibe here. Barrel aged in what though? Tastes like red wine. If this is bourbon barrel, I think something went askew. Finishes light with more spicy bitterness. Like the BA on this one but this brewery need to rethink their barleywine presentation. They should be rich, deep, warming and even comforting. Not edgy and bitter. Still, this is decent.
