One Off was introduced in January 2011 to celebrate the brewery’s 100th brew. Brewed as a one-off, it was so popular that it was continued as a regular brew. A very dark, full-bodied bitter which verges on being a stout. It merges together 2 varieties of hops and 4 varieties of malt to deliver its strong and memorable taste

Cask at the Countryman, Ingoldmells (home of Leila Cottage brewery), Lincolnshire. Pours dark, almost black with a firm off white head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, coffee and biscuit. Medium sweetness, light roasted bitterness. Medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation. Roasted malt finish. Good beer, best of their four.

On tap at the Countryman Inn. Ingoldmells. Deep brown colour with a thin off-white head. The aroma is dark and malty. The flavour had a hint of coffee and chocolate along with the malts.

Half pint; hand pulled at the brewpub. Although called ’One Off’ it is a regular brew and their strongest offering (on my visit: 5th May 2012). Dark and malty: a beefed up version of their ’Lincolnshire Life’ 4.2% ABV brew. Or is it the other way round with the ’Lincolnshire Life’ being a watered down version of this? Anyway it is a pleasant semi-sweet malty molasses flavoured beer that finished off my mini session at the their brewpub: sadly the brewer wasn’t there to talk too but I enjoyed the visit and his beers too.

Bottle that Barry, friend picked up from the brewpub for me, thanks Barry consumed 10.12.11 Pours murky brown, there is a slight sourness on the nose and in mouth, hinting at possible infection. Fruity, powdery in mouth and despite the possible yeast infection, it’s ok but from what Barry says this is probably better at the brewpub, as he really enjoyed it there, bottling has not really done this many favours sadly.
