Brewer's Dozen is a 5.5% ABV SPA (Special Bitter) and was brewed at Sara's brewery, Brewster's in Grantham. The inspiration for the beer also derived from the baker's dozen as the beer was brewed to an Original Gravity (OG) of 13˚ Plato. This is typical of the SPA’s historically brewed by many brewers who would name them Best or Special Bitter on the bar.
The beer was brewed using East Anglian barley malt , caramalt and crystal malt, with four varieties English hops –Fuggles, First Gold, Admiral, and Target. First Gold and Admiral are fairly recent varietals, bred in Kent by leading hop breeder Dr Peter Darby.

Cask-conditioned, on gravity, at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 11/10/2018. Deep golden in colour, with a slight, white, head. Citrus hops, tangerine and apricot fruits, toasty digestive malts and a dryish finish. Enjoyable.

Cask, gravity dispensed, at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. A golden amber pour with a thin white head; sweet syrupy grainy aroma; smooth and oily in the mouth with some spice, warmth and a resinous bitterness; then a sour grainy finish. Rather good.

Cask @ Bridge House JDW, Belfast [131114]
Amber, clear, dense white head, some lacing
Aroma of soft fruits, sweet caramel, soft peach
Taste of sweet soft fruity caramel, soft orangey, some slight floral notes, soft syrup malts
Palate - Medium body, quite oily, sweet, smooth texture. Finish of sweet malts.
Overall - Rather sweet beer, bit too much syrupy malt in this...came across as only just above average. Maybe the Spoons I’m at looking at the other ratings here

Tried at the Royal Hop Pole, Twekesbury. Hazy amber colour, with almost no head. Aroma of Olde English Marmalade. The taste also has orange citrus, and is quite sweet.

Cask at the Willow Walk, JDW - London. Pours clear yellow-gold with lasting, foamy white head. The nose has some piney hops, pale bread, rindy citrus fruits. Light to medium sweet with pronounced oily hops, moderate bitter pine, hay, lemon rind, light minerals, pale bread. Medium bodied with fine carbonation; decent condition. Resinous finish with soft floral notes, more viscous pine, citrus rind, balancing pale malts. Not bad. They didn’t skimp on the hops.
