Cask at the Wellington, Birmingham on 30th December 2014. Brownish copper with thinning off-white head and spot lacing. Rich caramel malt aroma with Roastiness. Fruity and roasty in-mouth with citric tang. Complex malt and fruitiness in finish. Smooth mouthfeel and medium body. Rated as a novelty ale.

Cask at the Wellington; dark clear chestnut brown pour with a bubbly tan head, hint of smoke and malt on the aroma, taste has quite robust malt action, along with toffee, and some dark fruit, slight hint of spice. Pleasant enough.

Tried at the Royal Hop Pole (JDW) Tewkesbury. Deep dark chestnut brown colour, lacy of white head. Aroma of fruit, didn’t pick up the spicy aroma, but it was there in the taste. Nice and Christmassy.

Two hand-pulled pints after the Carols in The Crown Inn, Oakengates on 21st Dec 2013. Pours a lovely deep, dark amber, a large white head sits majestically on top. Malty and spicy, this is one of the better Christmas beers I’ve had from a UK brewer this year. The aroma was warming, as the malty molasses mingled with the cinnamon and other wintery stuff they’ve added to the brew. This warm feeling carried on into the taste as the flavours married in the mash tun celebrated their release into a glass via a barrel. Good depth of flavours and a rich, almost heavy body for the ABV. A very pleasant end to the day and I’m glad I saved this beer as my swan song after the Carols.

Cask-conditioned at the Cross Hands, Winterbourne Down, S Gloucestershire 29/12/09. Deep chestnut in colour with a frothy, off-white head. Aroma of cinnamon, cloves and sweetish malts. Flavour began with some dark fruits, a touch of nuttiness and more spices, before a decent bitter finish. An enjoyable Christmas beer.
