The inspiration for this collaboration comes from the west coast of Africa in the region that transitions between Saharan and sub- Saharan, and source of the now world famous Roselle variety of Hibiscus. The result is a delectably hoppy and deliciously fruity take on the popular tea known in Senegal as “Bissap” (aka sobolo or zobo). Known by many different names throughout the world, Bissap tea is recognized by its lush red color. Stone Berlin Brewmaster Thomas Tyrell and our friends from Italy’s Birrificio Lambrate were inspired to develop the recipe when offered the sweet tea after a long night out in Milan. Brewed with Cascade, Mandarina Bavaria and Citra hops, and Roselle, the Lambrate / Stone Scarlet Hibiscus Pale Ale is a uniquely refreshing pale ale no matter where in the world you are.

Tap at TCBW (the label said red ale instead pale ale, but I assume it is the same thing. Pours amber-red. Aroma and flavor are sour, fruity, berries, hibiscus. Overall: ok.

Keg at the Ship & Mitre, Liverpool. Dark pinkish gold, hazy with a pink/cream head. Lots of hibiscus in the aroma with some juicy soft citrus lurking beneath. Herbal taste with sweet spice and even more hibiscus. Soft to medium carbonation. Overspiced and far from complex, but it works well enough and it's fun to drink.

Keg at Hop & Anchor Aberdeen. It pours cloudy pink with a scummy white head. The aroma is fragrant, floral, pink marshamallow, pink jelly, slightly jammy and chalky. The taste is dry, bitter, tannin, earthy, tea, big floral, spicy, juniper, pink marshmallow, jam, flinty and dull citrus with a drying finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Pink jelly vibes. Unusual. But fun.
