In March of 2016, Cantillon announced the arrival of freshly emptied Port barrels at the brewery. A total of fifty barrels of 500 liters each will be filled for a future release of the second batch of Brabantiae.
Jean Van Roy stated that "twenty-five years ago, in 1991, my father, Jean-Pierre Van Roy released a special Gueuze in response to a demand from the Province of Brabant. The "Brabantiae" was born. It was a Lambic matured in fresh Port barrels and refermented in bottles. To end this brewing season 2015/2016, we bought 50 Port barrels from 500 liters, freshly emptied. If everything goes as expected, after 2 years of maturation in these barrels and 1 year of secondary fermentation in the bottles, a new "Brabantiae" will be launched in 2019, 28 years after the first one !"

750ml. bottle shared @Himmeriget, Copenhagen (Denmark). 11/05/2022 [#4.835 Global - #156 Belgium - #14 Cantillon] Clear golden with a small white head. Aroma: oak, white wine tannins and funk barnyard. Taste: lemon, lot of yeasty funk and white wine barrels. So smooth and balanced that it hurts. Next one please!

Bottle shared at the Beau in London tasting, last group tasting for 7 months - who knew, big thanks to Dave 11/03/20. Lightly hazed orange with an off white cap that veers edgeward. Nose is funk, lemon tinged straw, damp alleyway, grass, barnyard tones. Taste comprises lemon rind, damp hay, funk, farmyard bite, light dried red berries, mellow barrel, acidic bite. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light drying close with an acidic tickle. Decent but not best in show.

750mL bottle, at SP LC Member party, 2025.
Not nearly as interesting as I remember the original batch being, but then, some ~30 years of difference will tend to do that. More apple and cherry than I prefer in my Cantillon, but still a very supple body like the original. Excellent lactic acidity with fruity Brett, maybe a bit more robust and acidic than many of their current offerings (though nothing like they used to be in the early 00's.
