In March of 2016, Cantillon announced the arrival of freshly emptied Port barrels at the brewery. A total of fifty barrels of 500 liters each will be filled for a future release of the second batch of Brabantiae.
Jean Van Roy stated that "twenty-five years ago, in 1991, my father, Jean-Pierre Van Roy released a special Gueuze in response to a demand from the Province of Brabant. The "Brabantiae" was born. It was a Lambic matured in fresh Port barrels and refermented in bottles. To end this brewing season 2015/2016, we bought 50 Port barrels from 500 liters, freshly emptied. If everything goes as expected, after 2 years of maturation in these barrels and 1 year of secondary fermentation in the bottles, a new "Brabantiae" will be launched in 2019, 28 years after the first one !"

Bottle at Zum Franziskaner. Hazy dark golden with a small head. Dry and quite tart with Port Wine, dried fruit and notes of citrus. Also some mild funk. An interesting and nice one.

Taster, many thanks to Sander! Golden-amber, clear body, with a small, light obeige head. Aroma of sweet grapes, Port barrel, stone fruits, some apple, the typical Cantillon funk in the background. Tastes very lovely, quite similar, while more complex, with the sweet and rustic notes perfectly balanced. Medium, a bit oily mouthfeel, with an average carbonation. Finishes perfect, smooth, complex, wooden, a bit musty, fruity and funky, with green apple, sweet grapes. Beautiful! So smooth and balanced, drinks incredibly fresh, while with a lot of depth at the same time. The port barrel is perfectly integrated, adding a sweet layer to the rustic funk. As delicious as I was hoping for! Score: 8 / 4 / 9 / 5 / 17

29.11.2020: Taster at gfs courtesy of Sander. New Vintage. golden almost clear color, small white head. smells of wood, port, marzipan, oxidation, some horse radish at first, sherry, nice to very nice smell. medium body, light carbonation. tastes of wood, port, subtle funk, bit citric, grassy, some horse radish, bit vanillaish, almost medical. finishes dry and lightly sour with notes of horse radish, port and some funky notes. pretty good one, tastes a bit young, flavours do not blend together that well (yet?). good but expected even a bit more.

Rerate 28.12.2025: 0,75l bottle at home. Amber hazy color, small white head. smells wood, funk, earthy, spices, tannins, bit glue. Nice smell overall, a bit harsh. full body, soft carbonation. tastes curry, spices, tannins, wood, oak, peppery. finishes dry and light to medium sour with notes of tannins, wood and spices. Nice, a tad unbalanced for me

Clear golden with a big lively white head that recedes fairly quickly. Aroma has big woody barrel notes, port, cellar funk, cobwebs, blue cheese notes, tart grapes and soft citrus. Flavour is light to moderate sweet, moderate sour and light bitter. Medium bodied with light carbonation. Absolutely beautiful. I had previously tried the ‘91 batch a few years ago which was good but a past is prime and a version they put on at Quintessence. This one blew me away though!

Bottle @Ma che siete venuti a fà (Rome). Dorata, viva, brillante, schiuma bianca media, discretamente persistente. Al naso note di frutta gialla, stalla, cantina, sentori di legno, di vino passito, di erbe balsamiche. In bocca è acida media, bilanciata da una leggera dolcezza data dalla botte di Porto, sentori di legno, buona complessità. Corpo medio, carbonazione media. Fine ed elegante, uno spettacolo!

Bottled, at Zum Franziskaner, Stockholm. Hazy deep golden, small head. Aroma of raisiny port. Bone dry and tart with slender body and crisp mouthfeel. Minerally with mild citric acid and hay. Some raisins and horseblanket. Complex and subtle. Tremendously elegant.

Bottle massive thanks to Billy. It pours lightly hazy with a decent white head. The aroma is fresh, zingy, funky, dried grape, plum, date, minerality, cantillon, lactic, wood and granny smith apple. The taste is crisp, dry, tart, tangy, zingy, lemon sherbet, granny smith apple, gooseberry, funk, berry skin, wet, vinous, jammy, red grape, light acidity and tannin with a drying finish. Medium body and fine, foamy carbonation. Lovely, well rounded and quaffable.
