This year's release is a blend of 24, 18, 12, and 8-month Bourbon Barrel-Aged Dark Star in 7-12-year old Kentucky bourbon barrels. The roasted and chocolate malts complement the smooth oats to bring you a stout delight wrapped in the gentle embrace of bourbon barrel-aged warmth. A touch of sweetness dances in balance with the hops to finish with a wave, and then she's gone.

Pours pitch black covered by a dense light brown head that doesn't last very long. Aroma's: bourbon, vanilla, roasty. Retronasal: bourbon, vanilla, wood, light roast, light sweetness. Flavour is moderate sweet, light roasty bitter, dark chocolate, alcoholic. Medium bodied. Good carbonation. Long finish, dark fudge, roasty, moderate bitter.

Now this takes it up quite a few steps. Better body than the base, although still not thick it's nicely smooth. Plentyof bourbon, sweet oaky vanills, roasty coffee from the beer and some light boozyness. Easy, but with great balance and flavour.

Smooth and sweet, surprisingly light. Lots of barrel, some roasty coffee, a bit of warming booze in the finish. Very nice.
