This blissful sensation you've been feeling lately might seem like a blessing, but beware - it doesn't take well to neglect or rejection.

In the empty air of your deep sleep, it will have its retribution, switching from comfort to terror, leaving you with only deafened screams shuffling around, sweeping at you with their cold flutters.

A bright morning will arrive, but who's keeping time anymore?

Can shared at MONYO. Jet black pour, beige head. Nose is citric, somewhat grassy and resinous hops with coffee and light dark chocolate and a touch of smoke. Taste is low to medium bitterness, faint boozy sweetness, citric and piny hops. Closes with a moderately bitter, hoppy-coffeeish finish, has a huge, somewhat oily body and low to medium carbonation. Very much to my liking, good one.

22 May 2021. Eurovision Tasting with the lovely Anke! Can from Gedeelde Vreugde. Hazy black, small, foamy, dark beige head. Aroma of cold coffee, coffe roast, toast, fondant powder, earth, walnut, pink grapefruit peel. Taste has sweetish yet dry orange, prune & fig, connecting with a bitter malt profile of coffee, toast and fondant, making for a powdery feel, with bitter grapefruit peel added to that. Piney hoppy finish, resinous almost, very much grapefruity whilst the coffee keeps on shining through and warming coffee liqueur alcohol tops it off. Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation. Very solid BIPA, just the right amount of coffee flavour, 'rounded' is the perfect word here.

330ml can. Jet black colour with minimally late awakening, huge, thick, creamy, moderately to mostly lasting, moderately lacing to fully coating, tan head. Intense, roasty, dark malty aroma, notes of coffee, mocha, roasted coffee beans, some dark chocolate, widely disguised, piney, minimally resinous hoppy counterpart with a touch of pine needles. Taste is moderately bitter, roasty, slightly chocolately, dark malty and piney, slightly resinous, hoppy, notes of coffee, mocha, roasted coffee beans, hints of dark chocolate, a touch of orange; lingering, bitter, roasty finish with notes of dark chocolate and coffee, well hidden alcohol. Creamy, oily texture, smooth, dry, slightly cloying palate, fine, creamy carbonation. OMFG!!! Rich coffee flavours, superbly matching piney and resinous, hop bitterness - a revelation! Eventually even better than To Øl's Black Malts & Body Salts - stupefying!

Coffee-flavoured black IPA, tasted right after the regular version, which was excellent beyond expectations. Thick and moussy, membrane-lacing, mocha-beige, stable head on a pitch black beer – like the regular one, not letting through any light. Aroma of dried grapefruit peel, indeed clear coffee (ristretto), salmiak, black peppercorns, pipe tobacco, marmite, blood, dried porcini, beef stock touch, leather, bayleaf, black tea, dry earth – in all, a bit earthier than the regular, but still very appealing. Sweetish onset of old raisin and dried fig with a beef stock-ish umami accent that in this case comes on a bit stronger than in the regular, yet still avoids becoming overly obnoxious; medium carb, full and oily body, almost syrupy, like the regular. Thick toasted-walnutty and bitter-chocolatey ‘black’ maltiness, deep and roasted bitter – more so than the regular, as this roasted effect is effectively enhanced by the added coffee, and yet this beer then manages to distract the attention away from the roastiness and directs your palate towards hoppiness, with again that long, peppery, resinous, grapefruity and piney bitterness lingering for a long time, accentuated by gin-like warming alcohol. And even though that pinch of coffee remains noticeable till the very end, it is the hops that dominate the finish, justifying the ‘IPA’ part in “black IPA”. I love black IPA, a genre silently disappearing from craft beer’s main scene, but as obsolete as it may have become in its country of origin, it is thankfully still alive in the corners of craft brewing Europe – though unfortunately, not many European craft brewers understand the style and many of them come up with hoppy stouts or porters rather than true BIPA. By adding coffee, I thought the delicate balance of roasted bitterness and hop bitterness might be disturbed in favour of the first, leading to a more stout- than IPA-like profile – but lo and behold, these Romanian craft beer guys managed to add coffee and still keep the whole thing firmly in black IPA territory. A daring balancing act, which I never expected them to successfully pull off – and yet they did. I am stunned by this ‘tour de force’ – these guys, in spite of their unlikely geographical location perhaps, are absolutely brilliant. Best BIPA I had in a really, really long time…

Can, 0.33l. Black pour, two finger frothy brown head, long lasting, excellent retention. Lots of lacing on the glass as it goes down. Very nice on the nose, coffee, cocoa, roasted malt. Hops in the background, touch of citruses. Medium body, soft carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel and texture, soft and chewy, very nice on the palate, easily drinkable. Roasty bitter taste, mild sweetness in the background. Aroma of dark roasted malts, coffee, cocoa nibs. Licorice, mild citrus, grassy. Pine. Slightly sticky. Smoked. Lingering alcohol, nicely warming. Long lasting finish, dry and liquory, lingering coffee notes. Quite tasty.

Dark brown pour with a tan head. Notes of green coffee, resinous hops, roasted malt, grapefruit, ash. Delicious stuff - right up my alley. There aren't enough coffee IPAs out there, in my opinion.
