Oats are used in the brewing of Scottish Oatmeal Stout to enhance the flavour of the black malt and roasted barley which give this traditional beer its rich dark colour and strong, complex roasted malt aroma and flavour, reminiscent of coffee and chocolate. These flavours are offset by a good hop bitterness and silky aftertaste.

Robert Younger, great grandfather of the founder of Broughton Brewery would be proud of this fine stout.

Strongly phenolic raisin smell. clear dark brown with a thin tan head. Tastes of tea with moderate astringency. Light charcoal finish. Watery mouthfeel, tainted. Little resemblance to a stout and drinks more like a dunkel or scotch ale.

Near black with a decent, tight tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, black fruit and porridge oats with a whiff of roastiness. Light mouth feel with some grain, chocolate and spice flavours. Decent, easy drinking.

Had under the name Kinmount Willie...molasses and sour raisins...sour port aroma...dark brown body, no head...the thin body wants to be more, but doesn’t know how....those raisins are sour....bad taste, just bad...just a bad brewery, but the sink seems to love it

Bottled@Poirotti’s Skotoberfest 2007. Really dark rubyish red, next to black basically. Not much head, just a little brownish foam floating. Aroma is very fruity hops with some mild wooden and roasted hints. Flavour is roasted malts, some slight caramel and ryebread. Also some slight brown sugary notes as for the sweetness. Aftertaste leaves a roasted, yet quite hopped flavour.

Bottle from Peckhams, Glasgow. Very deep brown with disappearing beige head. It’s got some nice charcoal, choc, coffee and a little sour fruit. Over carbonation. A little empty as it is pasteurised. Flavours are good, but palate is poor. Bit of liquorice.
