Pours a deep black color, topped with a hefty and lasting dark beige head. Starts with some nice citrusy notes, immediately overcome by mild roasty and chocolate aroma. Taste is roasty with some fruity presence with a very decent bitterness in the finish. What you’d expect from a good Black IPA. Great.

500ml bottle at an outdoor concert courtesy of Cuso, many thanks Imro. black color. small tan head. smells coffee, malty roasty, spices, light chocolate. medium body, bubbly carbonation, slick mouthfeel. nice taste of spices and coffee rostiness, coffee, some caramel, very nice creamy taste and mouthfeel, alcohol lightly noticeable, light citric notes. Dry / creamy / malty roasty finish, wow, drinks very nice and great mouthfeel. the coffee roastiness and the creamy mouthfeel reminds me a bit of milk coffee.

Keg at the Zlý Časy , Prague Day 2 of Fergus and Sarah’s Czech jaunt. 30/09/14. Opaque black coloured pour with a steadfast cream head. Aroma is nice fresh cirtrus and piney hops, nutty roasted malts, touch of soap on the nose as well. Flavour is composed of earthy roast and piney hop, harsh burnt toast, some citrus hop in the finish. Palate is crisp, highish carbonation, medium body. Makings of a good BIPA.

Bottle, 0.50l, courtesy of Maurizio. Cloudy almost black color with creamy brown head and great lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, caramel and herbal hops. Taste starts with moderate sweet chocolate and liquorice, follows by light fruity acidity and roasty sourness, while finish is medium bitter. Full body, oily texture and soft carbonation in palate. I think my sense of smell failed here as I almost couldn’t have noticed any citrus hops, only herbal, otherwise maltiness was too strong in aroma...

Dobre piwo. Konkretnie pachnace cytrusowymi amerykanskimi chmielami. Ciemne wnet czarne, metne slodowe z chleboawa tostowa skorka troche czekolady gozkiej oraz czarne jagody w posmaku. Piana niezbyt trwala brazowawo szarawa. Gestosc jest naprawde solidna i smak chmielu dominuje przewaza w koncowce nad slodowoscia. Fajny pomysl na nuty Hey Joe Hendrixa. Respect.

Jun ’14. A 0.5 l bottle kindly shared by the Slovakian RB crew, thanks! Another IPA, this one in black version. I think it was clear although very dark, near to black colored with small brown head. Coffee, some yeast and toasted malt aroma. Very little hops, just a bit to get the feeling of an IPA. Flavor was also completely doiminated by coffee, almost reminds of a schwarzbier with more body and (only a tad) more hops. Lightly bitter, but quite balanced for an IPA. Body was pumped up with some fruity notes, dark fruits for sure, caramel, toffee, while hops were herbal, with some orange only showing up in its long and balanced finish. Although some tasters could ask for more bitterness because of the style, this was very pleasant ale, no matter what.

500ml bottle @ the 7th Shrewsbury Bottle Share, Aug 14. Thanks to Cuso for the trade. Pours black with off-white head. Treacle aroma. Taste is soft caramel malts, dark fruits.. fine tasting but not too much in the way of hops for a Black IPA.
