Cheers Mat for bringing a 500ml bottle of this to the August 2014 Shrewsbury beer share session. Almost jet black in colour with a thin off white head. Roasted and toasted malts in the nose with a soft coffee note or two. Seemed to lack a hop bite or bitterness on the palate but this allowed the malts free to give off their semi-sweet characteristics without hindrance. Not too sure an American Black Ale should be so lacking in hop content, but I liked the large sample I had and would gladly have a pint of this.

Appearance: Black color with a fine off white head that leaves a fine lacing.
Aroma: Mild roasted malt, mild fruity, hoppy and coffee.
Palate: Medium + body. Moderate sweet and a moderate bitterness. Average carbonation. Dry texture.
Taste: Dark malt, mild roasted malt, some coffee mild fruity and pleasant hoppy.
Overall impression: Could have been a bit moe fruity and more dominant hoppy. Still a really nice and fine brew.
Personal stats: Bottle from a trade with McTapps

Draught. Deep brown colour with a medium white head. Smell is roasted malts, with clear hops notes too. Taste too, with some licorice too maybe. Nice beer.

Lahev(autořská práva Cuso!): Literally black coloured with a ruby sheen, mid-sized and stable tanned head; toasty-ashy nose with a mild fruity touch of dark dried berries, some herbal to piney hops detectable in the background; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, soft MF, medium bodied; lingering hoppy and slightly porter-like sourish-ashy finish. Pěkné pivo; Kaltenecker je výborný pivovar…

Poured a murky blackish brown/red with a small off white head. Mild aroma, coffee, roasty notes, light creamy, some aroma hops. Full, creamy taste, somewhat roasty and with some aroma hop presence, full, good bitterness, pin, orange (how many times did I sense that?!). Balanced, a good dark IPA-oid.

Bottle @ America Strikes Back, Ulfborg. Pours cloudy dark brown with small off-white head. Clear aroma of malt and nuts, with notes of dark chocolate. Bitter flavour of rasted malt, with sweetish notes of chocolade and hints of hops and dark chocolate. Bitter aftertaste. Not much pale ale about it, but it is easily drinkable and nice.
