Blend of dark Trappist ale and traditional milk stout, that spent two years on a cognac barrel. Some of the sugar from the milk stout is unfermentable leaving body and mouthfeel to this otherwise dry and crisp beer. A beer that is surprisingly refreshing for its color and alcohol level.

Bottle 75 cl. Vintage 2015. Pours an opaque black with a rich and creamy beige head. Acetic, woody aroma - some balsamico. Medium body, dry and tart, complex flavors as above. Absolutely no roastiness remaining - it’s all balsamico. Not a bad beer at all, just not to my personal liking. 241223

Bottle, brewed in 2015. Pours slightly hazy dark brown with stable light tan head. Clear aroma of yeast, flowers and herbs, with hoppy and malty touches. Dry flavour with estery and spicy notes and touches of barrel, hops and malt. Rough, estery aftertaste with barrellike and dry notes. A nice one.

Bottle, 8.5%. Citric, acetic aroma, very fruity. Woody acid, like balsamico. Very dark brown colour. Seems clear. Good brown head. The flavour is quite acidic and funky with notes of oak and vanilla, vinegar, dried fruits, tobacco, plum and raisin. Very good.

Bottled. A almost black beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, roasted malt, prunes, caramel, tobacco, and coffee. The flavor is sweet with an acidic edge and notes of coffee, tobacco, prunes, caramel, malt, and alcohol, leading to a dry finish.

Bottle. Dark brown, almost black body with a huge, lacing, dense beige head. Aroma has dark malt, oak, dry fruit and mild acidity. Taste is more acidic than expected from aroma, dark malt, dry fruit, wood and slightly funky. Fine body and long lasting smooth aftertaste. Nice one.

Dark brown with a lasting off-white head. Complex aroma with oak, earthy funk, chocolate, balsamic vinegar, cherries and figs. Dry, fruity and quite tart flavour with an undercurrent of dark chocolate. It's perhaps the most tart Penyllan I've had, and it's a tiny bit too much for my taste.
