Tap at Hopa. Copper pour, lacing off-white head. Nose is intense lactic and acetic acid, grapes and berries, some spicy woody touch. Taste is also rather heavily sour, but after a few sips it seems to mellow. There's also fruity hints, brett, woody very well mixed. Closes with long lasting sour finish, has medium to full body and has soft to average carbo. After the initial shock it becomes rather pleasant.

corked and caged bottle, 2018, tasted apr 4 2024 pours chestnut brown with a small white to offwhite head. Aroma is sour and slightly malty - it fits totally in the sour belgian bruin category for me, was I blind tasting I would place the beer definetly from belgium, as a sour bruin, one of the finer ones. the sourness (vinagre salad dressing sour) is toned by several finer complexity adding notes like wood, bourbon wood, roasted malts. all notes I can find could be brewing-process derived rather than just fruit and stuff added. great aroma almost a 9. much closer to 8.5 than 8. Flavor has some notes from the added yuzu and perhaps also the pepper, base beer seem to be seriously sour, also seems to lack a little bit of yeasty body, compared to the belgians. very decent sour with lots of complexity to explore. The alc.% is fitting and not spoiling anything, good collaboration, has kept very well the 6 years since botteling, could keep for years more I think.

Small cream coloured rim over burgundy-shot, almost black beer. Magnificent nose of red wine, wine barrels, lactic acid, red fruit and citrus/orange - yuzu, of course. Very sour, with a warming just-not-sweet fruity backing. Lactic acid, vinous character. Red fruit, old oak, overripe sour cherries, cherrywine and lemon. Finish has some heat - no doubt the Japanese pepper mentioned. Warming up, some incense. Lipsmacking acidity, acidbite and -thinning, but never disturbingly. Phenomenal, outstanding, superb - superlatives failing. Rivals the best Flemish sours.
