Odyssey 009 is a blend of sherry and bourbon barrel-aged imperial stouts and red wine barrel-aged saison, inoculated with brett and lactic-acid. Inspired by Project Barista, the beer is a complex blend of flavours found in your coffee cup - fruity acidity, roasted chocolate, nuttiness and a rounded caramel and toffee finish. A small addition of Brazilian coffee from Anvil in Basingstoke accentuates the sweetness.

Bottle picked up from Siren brewery Nov/Dec 2024 and consumed at home, sat outside with the brazier roaring away, Saturday 10th May 2025 after another hard day of patio/terrace building. Pours dark brown with a light tan head, however this is partly a best guess re: appearance as it's very dark out here now. There is a touch of red wine and perhaps sherry on the nose, also Brett. In the mouth a lovely tart and tanginess, super drinkable. I haven't a clue what the style is because haven't bothered reading up on it, but I love it. Fruity, light chocolate, sourness, Brett, great beer.

From tap at Taplokaal Gist, Utrecht, during the Siren tap takeover. World premiere of the annual Odyssey, this time with added coffee according to a brewery employee present for the event. Black Stout-like appearance. Roasty aroma with lots of wood, barrel notes, coffee, red wine, chocolate. Light funk, lots of barrel. Not sour, but grapey. Body is medium to full. A red wine & roast Barley Wine/Stout? Complex and quite tasty.

Poured from 375mL bottle. Near black with small beige head. Quite vinous, woody oak, feint bourbon, fruity underlying character. Decent.

375ml bottle - Pours black with a small loose tan head that quickly disappeared. The aroma is tangy dark berries with some red wine and woody notes. A moderately sweet and sour fruity taste, bitter dark berries, musty grape and red wine flavours with liquorice and woody notes and a drying sour finish. Not sure what to make of it.

Bottle from A Hoppy Place, Windsor. Aroma of black coffee and liqourice. Underlying fruitiness. Smokey edge. Darkest brown. Frothy tan head soon disappears almost entirely. The taste replicates the aroma only with a big streak of vinous sourness running through it. Has an almost salty effect. Underlying roastiness. It's different. Medium bodied. Slick. Flat-average carbonation. Long astringent finish. The combination of the bitter Stout with a sweet underbelly and the sour ale plus barrel aging work for me - they compliment each other.
