This Pale Ale takes its name from the castle built by King John in 1207, which is located less than a mile from the original Brewery, and from where he rode out to Runnymede to sign the Magna Carta. The beer itself is deep amber in colour with a blend of pale ale and crystal malt. The bitterness and fruity aroma are developed from a combination of hops.

Amber with a small head. Fruity aroma with elements of fruitcake and spicy malt. Fruity taste with raisins, caramel and spicy malt. Nicely balanced and refreshing.

Bottle from Redh. Pours clear amber with a thin off-white head. Aromas of toffee and faint spice. Taste is caramel, fudge and that hint of light spice again. Sweet finish. Simple, but solid enough.

Bottle from Crockford Bridge Farm Shop, Addlestone. Having pork pie and piccalilli so it had to a God Save the Queen Queen British Ale. Sweet caramel and malt aroma with a hint of dark berries. Caramel brown. Thick fluffy off-white head. Light-medium bitter. Some initial sweetness before a sourness comes through and slightly disrupts the finish. Malt backbone. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Flat carbonation. Long slightly astringent finish. It was going well until we head into the iffy sour finish.
