Barley Wine is a beer style with a characteristic, very rich and intense malty aroma and a complex flavour in which the malty sweetness ideally intertwines with distinct yet non-intrusive bitterness. Komes Barley Wine offered by Browar Fortuna is the strongest version of the style: the beer has a high extract content and warming-up properties, offering beautiful amber and copper hues.
The beer is brewed with new wave, American hop varieties, added at the end of the wort-boiling process. The beer is also dry-hopped during fermentation to enrich the aromatic composition and the taste profile of Komes Barley Wine.

Orange, prune, caramel malt, and hay aroma. Dark brown with small head. Very sweet citrus/raisin, caramel malt, and moderately bitter hay and alcohol flavor. Good body.

Always nice to have a different barley wine to try. I have a 500 ml bottle from Poland to sample that was purchased at a liquor store in Colorado Springs this summer. Pulling out the New Belgium globe glass to handle this one, I tilt for the pour. A dark copper-brown body with a nice head of tawny brown foam that slowly settles down. Very fragrant with stewed fruit, grain and chocolate to a small degree. The taste, I have to say, is good, really good. Ripe dark plums, wheat bread, black raisins, malt, some hoppiness, dark chocolate, berries and alcohol. Dense, chewy, a bit of a burn too. I don't get a lot of barley wines to taste but this is the best in a long while.

Very sweet, a flood of caramel and buttered toffee and brown sugar followed by a slight bitterness and a touch of brine. Decent, but I’m much more fond of hop-bomb barleywines.

50cl bottle pours with a murky amber colored body that supports a thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up odd muted hops, some lightly roasted malts, specialty malts and then some booze. Not the best nose. The flavor delivers a nice malty depth that gets into a bit of caramel malts and mild fruity ester sweetness. To midway the vague bitter hops and booze both come to the surface to help create a semblance of balance. The aroma was just 'ok' but the flavor is on point creating a pleasing balance and malty depth.

From a 50 cl shared bottle. Deep mahogany colour with a thin off-white head. Sweet aroma with caramel malts, red berries, ripe fruits, liqourice, some lightly toasted bread. Taste is sweet. Full bodied. Lingering sweet finish. Not the most complex BW, yet enjoyable.

Aroma 7. Appearance 4. Taste 8. Palate 4. Overall 15. Dark fruits, toffee, and some liquorice. Similar taste, more sweet than expected but balanced with a hint of bitterness. Warming alcohol at the end, with long dark fruits and nuts aftertaste.

Big bottle, many thanks to djoeye. Dark brownish body, bubbles on the surface, poor lacing. Sweet smell of dried fruits and toffee. Dried fruity flavours, moments of prunes and raisin, joined by nutty caramel. Prolonged dried fruity ending. Well bodied. Long-lived sipper, very much on the sweet side though.
