Yes yes, I got this for the style tick. Not completely what I was expecting, didn't get much of the rice influence or sake memories. Quite dusty, little bit acidic, pretty blonde. Not bad, but not interesting either.

Tap. Hazy pale golden color with white head. Aroma is yeast, dough, a bit unexciting. Taste is the same. Silky mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Alright.

Ginjo and koji beer – a completely Japanese-themed beer, because fermented with ginjo (sake yeast) and koji (sake fungus, also a fermenting agent in sake), and flavoured with Darjeeling tea to top it off. Thanks tderoeck for sharing. Gusher! After that: egg-white, fairly thick and foamy, regular and quite stable head on a lightly misty pale orange-glowing apricot blonde robe. Weird and not too inviting aroma of pickled and sugared gherkins, pineapple candy, apricot blossoms, sake including that typical sulfuric or rubbery note, frying sunflower seed oil, wet cement, chervil soup. Fruity onset, hints of green pear, unripe melon and vague banana, fizzy carbonation; slick body, sweetish-grainy maltiness with a slight sourish edge. A more Betterfood-like malt sweetness appears in the middle, while that green fruitiness lasts and weird herbal and vegetable-like accents come up, chervil and gherkins again. A sake-like aspect is certainly noticeable retronasally; bitterness remains very soft, so that the finish does not have a lot of body and the fruity and sake-like aspects slowly fade instead of being highlighted again by hops. Weird concoction, another unnecessary hybrid of two drinks which may technically be related, but which are also separated by a great distance in both time and space. There will be amateurs for this, but I am not one of them, I am afraid…

Small white head, fast gone over cold-hazed darker golden beer. Light sourish nose, exotic and wild fruit, grain, faintly sherry-ish. Very dry, tart going towards astringent, dry medlars not fully soft, pumpkin, again a bit sherry - which is the sake, of course. Wood and weak tea. Dry, as drying out the saliva glands, and a bit sticky-slick. Interesting. Txs to Stef!

18/VIII/22 - 33cl can from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ Alengrin’s place, BB: VI/2023 (2022-1018)
Clear orange beer, small creamy off-white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: weird, cucumber, weird, very yeasty, dirty, chalky touch, spicy, pretty funky, meh. Not a big fan of this weird stuff, is it the saké yeast? MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet start, weird, acidic, sourish, lemony, nope. Aftertaste: soapy, a bit floral, weird, sulphur notes, autolyse, cooked rice, chemical, some solvents, yeasty, more floral, dirty finish. What is this?? I applaud the creativity to make a beer like this, but the result is just pretty darn bad...
