A perfectly plump pint “brood” for a fuller flavour, the rich roasted malt character is balanced against both fruity and citrus hop notes. 4.6% on the bottle.

400ml bottle. Poured a slightly hazy copper colour with a thin broken white head. The aroma is malt, red berry fruits. The flavour is moderate bitter with a fresh, smooth, malt, light tart fruit, light dry woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Cask at the Old Nick, Holborn. Pours dark amber with an average sized off-white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, fruit and light Christmas spice. Medium sweetness, light to moderate bitterness. Medium body, slight oily texture, soft to fine carbonation. Quite enjoyable.

Brown 500ml bottle with a best before Date of Dec 2008, drank May 2008. Poured into a Forbidden Fruit chalice glass. Terracotta red colour with a wispy white trace of a head. Toffee Apples came to mind as the aroma arrived at my nose, this was sweet smelling stuff. The taste reminded me of Batemans XXXB, one of my favourite beers. Well balanced and full of all the good things an English Bitter should possess, a hop, malt mix with a medium mouthfeel. I thought this one of the better bottled beers on the British market at the moment.

Light amber color. Passionfruit, but no bitterness. Fairly malty easy drinking. Very light, not overly complex. Lingering caramel finish.

Amber-copper beer with coppergreen sheen. Fine carbonation to smallish, light-beige head. Spicy, herbal aromas overlying caramel & sweet malts, wet dog. UK hops to the fore, taking away the sweet from the caramel beneath. Faint veggie bitter on the palate, even a bit sulphury, bit weird. Warming up, apparent fatty acids. Very light body, slightly slick. Aftertaste becomes a tad metallic. OK in the end, nowhere close to greatness. I agree with other tasters that the pasteurisation doesn’t do it any favours.
