(6/29/08) Bottle sample at RBESG08 grand tasting in Plzen. Black-colored, coffee-like. Powerful aroma of burnt malt, coffee and some hard liquor-like alcohol. Sweet powerful flavor with coffee and whiskey. Full-bodied. Too overpowering.

Bottled #30@RBESG Grand Tasting 2008
Thanks yespr! Pitch black color, small off-white head. Vanilla aroma with some licorice in it. Liquerish .. vanilla, whisky, some licorice, vanilla ice cream. Lots of sugar. Propably this improves after some cellaring.

Bottle at RBESG Grand Tasting 2008. Black with thin tan head. Too much soy sauce on aroma for me. Some bourbon on aroma. It’s like a sweet oloroso sherry. Better in mouth than on aorma. Thick and really quite good towards the end. Sherry elements are excellent.

RBESG 2008, bottle, huge thanks to whoever gave us the opportunity to try it! Black body (actually extremely dark reddish colour), traces of a brown head. Nose... sweetish coffess, some sourness, soy sauce. Sweet malty taste, soy sauce again, very thick, too sweet. I really respect the beer and it’s for a great cause, but it’s really not my cup of tea.

Bottled at RBESG. Intensely black. Concentrated woody licorice aroma. Very sweet, (full flavoured)^2. Lots of alcohol, some syrup and wood. Viscous and complex with flavours of chocolate liqueur and plum brandy. Not at all as harsh as Mikkeller Black, this is much more refined and less assaulting. I still think that a slightly toned down version would score better by me.

RB#5000: 75 cL bottle. Sitting on Grovlams terrace, sun slowly setting on the last day of May. I had a 40 minute bike ride in the most beautiful wheather and had one of the best burgers ever. Then this came on.
Pours pitch black with an initial dark chocolate brown head. Immediately disappearing in a slight fizzy way. Dense roasted, alcohol and burbon aroma. Dark fruity notes swept in a solid roasted malt with a smooth chocolate note and an intense flavour that keeps lingering for eternity with the smallest sip. Continued sweetness lingering through to the finish. Smooth and yet powerful with a nice barrel flavoured base throughout. Utterly wellbalanced. End is not present, the flavour simply never really ends...
Huge thanks to joergen, Thomas_E, sk8viking and Grovlam for sharing this - cheers!

[To celebrate my 1700th rating - a huge thanks to Cellar for sharing this awesome brew!] Pitch black with medium dark brown head. Sweet vinious aroma with notes of dark bitter chocolate, sherry, hard roasted malt, coffee and vanilla. Flavor likewise with an intense vinious and complex composition. Full bodied and such a powerfull beer. Excellent!
