We've got friends in remote places, Alaska being one of them. Sassan and Brian from Denali Brewing Co. packed their bags with 30 pounds of Chaga mushrooms from Alaskan birch trees and embarked on the long journey through foreign lands and over the arctic just so that we could brew with it. Chaga has been known as a medicinal plant for ages. Denali is not only a brewery, once again it is also the name of the highest mountain in North America

Dark pour and a fine beige head Ok intensity in the aroma Balanced sweetness and a fine carbonation level Easy to drink Dark malt, fruity, herbal, coffee, chocolate and some spices in the flavor Hard to know if there was any chaga impact [Bottle from Tore at Nøgne Ø]

Black with a large foamy brown head. Roasty, smoky and earthy with an odd presence that I could not place - almost mushroom but strange. Long finish full body.

500ml bottle. Jet black colour with small to average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, tan head. Intense, chocolately, roasty, dark malty aroma, notes of Belgian chocolate, coffee, cocoa, a touch of caramel, slightly nuttily overtones, some liquorice, an earthy touch of bark. Taste is sweet-ish fruity and chocolately, roasty dark malty, notes of dark chocolate, some cocoa, a touch of coffee, hints of blueberry, some liquorice, an earthy touch of bark: oily to viscous texture, smooth and soft, minimally sticky palate, lingering roasty finish. As I don't know Chaga mushrooms it is hard to identify their contribution - probably the earthy aspects go on their account.

Bottle. Very dark brown, close to black body with a nice beige head. Distinct but not very strong aroma, its rather well composed complex with dark, smooth roasted malt, hint of coffee, dark chocolate, some dark fruit and warming alcohol. Flavor is quite strong and very smooth at the same time. Dark, smooth roasted malt, coffee/chocolate, dry fruit, balanced bitterness, warming alcohol and some umami something. Well balanced full bodied and long lasting very good aftertaste. Had this when fresh and compared with this well stored bottle the complexity has increased considerably after about one year storage. Very nice and probably well fit for further storage.

I was expecting it to be more Savory and somehow it’s slightly more sweet. It’s low carbonation which also is not a benefit. It’s decent beer but nothing to write home about
