Sorte Louis is a jet-black porter, infused with Stauning Whisky's own smoked malt from the fields around Stauning, as well as the subsequently distilled raw spirit.
By uniting two of the region's dedicated food producers, we have chosen to pay tribute to a legendary vessel that in a way also united people from both sides of the fjord.
When my father was a boy in the 90s, the ferry "Sorte Louis" sailed locals and tourists between Hvide Sande and Ringkøbing. The ferry has had something of a stormy history and today functions as a boat restaurant in Aarhus.
The porter has a lovely, subdued aroma and taste from the smoked malt, as well as a pleasant aftertaste from the raw spirit.

Sjøen 180224. THX to Yngwie. Black color with a tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, whiskey, coffee. Flavor is roasted malt, whiskey, coffee, molasses, herbs. OK beer.

Bottle from HavnensVinOgTobak. Pours opaque dark brownish black with large offwhite head. Aroma is roasted malt, burnt sugar, dark caramel, candies figs, ground coffee and light liquorice. Taste is very sweet, light bitter, faint acidic and light salty. Body is creamy with soft carbonation. Finish is long and mostly sweet with notes of burnt sugar, dark caramel, roasted malt, candied figs, prunes, oak, vanilla, sweet Speyside whisky and hints of peated malt whisky.

Bottle. An unclear brown beer under a dense, finger-thick beige head. The aroma is roasted and lightly burnt, with toffee and hints of molasses. It’s full-bodied and lightly boozy-warming, with a gentle carbonation. Burnt, charred malts and some coffee. Lightly herbal. Long roasted, burnt and charcoal-ish finish. Black, small creamy beige head. Aroma has roasted malt, dry wood, a little smoke and licorice and mild whisky. Dry, roasted flavour, light warmth from the added (?) whisky.

500ml bottle, many thanks to Skinnyviking. Deep dark brownish body, rich lacing from a stable fawn-coloured head. Slightly smoked malty aromas with a scent of chocolate malts. Malt-driven flavours of dark bread, chocolate, and biscuit. Slightly smoked finish. Nice mouthfeel. Like it. (Hotel room, Copenhagen 05.05.2023).
