Gose-style ale with Syrah Grapes aged in Oak Foeders
This is a rosé - and a gose - by any other name. Goses are Red is a stylish funky, crisp and tart gose ale inspired by the soft sweetness of a rosé wine. The refreshing wheat-based ale begins with some of the qualities you’d expect from a gose, including coriander spicing and a light saltiness to complement the tartness imparted by our house cultures. But the story doesn’t end there - it builds in complexity, thanks to time spent in an oak foeder and the addition of grapes, which impart a refreshing character and color.

Sample at Bob's Bar during the "Wolf's Ridge Night!" event on 08/18/2017. The beer is a murky reddish-orange color with a medium bone white head that diminishes gradually to a film. Stringy lacing. Aroma of tart fruit, funky yeast, oak and malt. Light-bodied with flavors of salty citrus, coriander, yeast, oak and doughy malt. The finish is tart with a citrusy aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

750 ml bottle from the dbarnold. Murky dark orange with a slight reddish hue. Fizzy head, no lace. Tart and sour, vinegar, some fruit / grape. Quite sour. Minimal salinity. Lively feel. A bit too much on the vinegar side for my preference. Still, a tasty beer.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma has light acidic notes with some medium light coriander notes. Moderate grape notes with some light citrus character. Light wheat and grain notes. Pours a reddish color with some amber and orange hues and a medium large, thin, slightly off white head that quickly recedes to the edges and disappears. Flavor has a medium light acidity with some light grain notes and sweetness. Dry finish. Light citrus notes with hints of tropical fruit. Moderate grape and coriander notes. Medium salinity and low bitterness. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium high to high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice gose. Solid grape notes that do not overpower. Light grains and yeast notes. Good phenolics from the coriander.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/5/2017. Slight gusher upon opening. Pours lightly hazy pinkish/reddish orange color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light pink head with good retention, that reduces to a thin ring of lacing eventually. Minimal lacing on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lightly tart lemon, lime, green apple, pear, red grape, coriander, sea salt, wheat, cracker, peppercorn, oak, hay, grass, light lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, grapes, salt, coriander, oak, and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lightly tart lemon, lime, green apple, pear, red grape, coriander, sea salt, wheat, cracker, peppercorn, oak, hay, grass, light lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness and yeast/coriander spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart lemon, lime, green apple, pear, red grape, coriander, sea salt, wheat, cracker, peppercorn, oak, hay, grass, light lacto funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, grapes, salt, coriander, oak, and moderate pale malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tart/spiciness balance, and zero puckering flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from tart/spiciness and carbonation, increasing through the glass. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, crisp, moderately grainy/acidic, and lightly tannic/saline balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.3%. Overall this is an awesome fruited gose style! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, grapes, salt, coriander, oak, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink with the mild acidity/tartness. This is probably the least sour Bruery wild ale I’ve ever had. Spot on classic tasting style example with nice fruit presence, and not overly salty. Perfectly balanced. A very enjoyable offering.
