Can from the brewery. Dark brown. Fairly thick head. Assertive bourbony nose with some roasty stuff. The body is a bit light - 8.5% speaks to that - and the bourbon is the dominant character. There's still some dark sugars, though I'd like more, and there's some roast that goes as far as lending acidity. Moderate bitterness. The whole thing feels like dipping toes into the water. The bourbon is big, but the stout needs a bit more as it's being overwhelmed. And really, if you're going big, go big.

Great oozy deep beige foam on a jet black body with hints of brown. Soft molasses aroma, cocoa, not very forthcoming however but clean. Flavour is very nice chocolate mousse, sweet cocoa, maybe some soft bourbon barrel sharpness. Very full and smooth, well done.

Courtesy of Matt, can
Black colour, tan head.Aroma of dark malts, tar, dust. Dominant roasted malt character, burnt malt, ashes, almost no sweetness, and there's the problem, lack of balance; the barrel aging comes through as petrol, rubber.
Unbalanced.

12oz on Alex's porch. Appearance: dark brown with a tan head. Aroma: inky, roasty, some coffee and smoke. Taste: very roasty, ashy, and bitter. Overall: nah, it's toooo bitter for me, I believe one the most bitter beers I've had in a while.

On tap at ABC, pours jet black with a small tan head. Nose brings out medium roasted malt, a touch of wood, and some sludgy earthiness. Flavour is full of roasted malt, light wood, and earthiness. I can't really detect bourbon at all. It has a thick, sludgy, earthy palate. There's not a lot of depth of complexity for such a big beer. Not bad, but I hoped for more.
