West Coast Style American Pale Ale

Hopped with the timeless combination of Centennial and Cascade, this Resilience series passion project honors the legacy of visionaries like Ken Grossman of Sierra Nevada. Whilom (meaning “erstwhile, what once was”) pours a light copper color with a slightly off-white head and features aromas of orange zest, lemon and grapefruit. Light pine and earthiness yield to a restrained bitterness and dry finish. Highly drinkable, simple and balanced, it features both pale and crystal malts—just like some of our favorite beers that began the craft revolution and continue to inspire us today.

Canned 4/7/22, drunk 8/17/22. Glassy bronze-copper. Small, white head, moderately-low retention. Pepper and citrus with caramel and vanilla. Honey, cracker, lemon.... In the mouth it's soft, malty, well-attenuated with caramel, fruity apple, and pepper. Caramel, pine, citrus and clean yeast with cracker and rustic grains. Juicy, soft and balanced. A bit old, obviously, but with the refrigeration it's still flavorful and balanced and you can tell how well-made it was.

16 oz. can. Aroma is full of cascade and centennial hops. Flavor has light grains and caramel sweetness is noticeable throughout. The body is fairly light and crisp with healthy pine character in the finish. The West Coast style of APA / IPA seems to be making a comeback with brewers in mid-2022.

Can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a clear orange gold with a finger of off-white foam that lingers. Citrus pith, zest and earthy pine on the nose. More of the same on the palate. Drying finish with earthy caramel, pine and orange. Got some Sierra Nevada Pale vibes from this one. Delicious.

Can from the Packie Pours a deep gold color with a decent sized bubbly white head that persists. Bready caramel and bit old school in feel with plenty of citrus tropical and earthy pine to counter. Nice.

Pours hazy dark amber into an English pint. Bright white soapy head with good retention recedes leaving gloppy lacing. Earthy caramel aromas. Medium bodied with sweet caramel and meadow upfront turning to mild pine in the medium length finish.

Can from Milk and Hops: pours deep gold with white head. Aroma is biscuit, pine, slight fruity notes. Old school American Pale Ale taste and smell. Mellow bitterness. Malty backbone. Is what it is.
