At the beginning of every year we brew a strong stout to a different recipe. This beer is then aged in oak for 10-11 months and bottled just before Christmas.

Bottle from Beer Gonzo. Very dark chestnut brown colour almost black, no head. Aroma comes mainly from the roasted malt and the whisky barrel, a hint of sour berries. Taste roasted malty to light sour. Oily rich body, and flat body.

Bottle at Craft Islington share, thanks to Dan. It pours jet black with a small tan head. The aroma is rich, bitter - sweet, rather tangy, dark fruits, umami, fudge, toffee and crunchie. The taste is dry, tart, earthy, sour lemon, Granny Smith apple, wood ,dark fruits, roasted malt, funk, spice, wood, lactic aspect and some decent mouth-pucker. Finish is dry and funky. Medium - full body and fine to low carbonation. I like aspects of this beer but it does not seem to come together harmoniously. Funky experiment.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Cotteridge, Birmingham, consumed at home on Pond Building Pt2 Weekend, indoors now, just had Chocolate and Grand Marnier Ice Cream Sunday 30th April 2017 Flat as a pancake, woody on the nose. Quite tart and tangy, sour. Woody in the mouth, it’s unusual, I wasn’t a fan at all at first but now appreciating it a little more but still disappointed that it has the appearance of a flat coca cola, the zappy woody flavours poke through, a bit of gritty creosote, it started off as not great but slowly started to win me over (a bit) A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov13 3.1

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Daniel. Pours deep brown with a thin tan head. Lightly tangy aroma, some brown bread, dried berries. Light sweet flavour with more tangy notes, old berries, some ash. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Tangy and drying in the finish, leathery berries, a little booze. Not a big fan.
