The captain of the ship knew the moment he sailed into the Fog of Death what was next. Legend decreed that out of nowhere, the stench of the Reaper would arrive with his chess board in hand. And a Dead Man's Game would be waged for the souls on the ship.
If the captain availed himself and triumphed over death, the ship would sail on, reaping the rewards of gold and riches. Should death prevail, the ship and souls would vanish in the damp night air forevermore. Many played the Dead Man's Game, but no ship ever sailed out of the Fog of Death.. until this night.

375mL bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Nose is very complex, with lots of rum barrels, a bit of bourbon, and tons of dried dark fruits. Flavour is intense, with loads of rum and bourbon barrels, with lots of dark dried fruits and caramel. Boozy and harsh, but it's in a pleasing way. Nice stuff, but overrated in my books.

375 ml bottle into snifter, 2018 vintage bottling. Pours opaque dark drown/black color wioth a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the lace cap. Aromas of big raisin, plum, prune, cherry, fig, date, apricot, red apple, red wine, vanilla, rum, bourbon, toasted oak, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, and biscuit; with lighter notes of coconut, milk chocolate, cocoa, molasses, licorice, sherry, peppercorn, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Bit of booze in the aromas as it warms, but not too overwhelming. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/light spicy yeast, dark/bready/light roasted malts, and bourbon/rum barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of huge raisin, plum, prune, cherry, fig, date, apricot, red apple, red wine, vanilla, rum, bourbon, toasted oak, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, and biscuit; with lighter notes of coconut, milk chocolate, cocoa, molasses, licorice, sherry, peppercorn, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/grass/roasted bitterness and yeast/rum/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark fruit, cherry, apricot, red apple, red wine, vanilla, rum, bourbon, toasted oak, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, biscuit, coconut, milk chocolate, cocoa, molasses, licorice, sherry, peppercorn, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/light spicy yeast, dark/bready/light roasted malts, and bourbon/rum barrel flavors; with a great malt/bitterness and rum/bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and yeast/oak spiciness. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/grainy, and lightly sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Lightly increasing warmth of 14%, with minimal barrel booze lingering after the finish. Overall this is an amazing barrel aged Belgian strong dark ale! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/light spicy yeast, dark/bready/light roasted malts; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV, with the mildly bitter/spicy/tannic/drying finish. Amazing balance of yeast and rich malt complexity; with perfect Rum/Bourbon barrel integration. Not overly boozy, tannic, or drying. A highly amazing offering, and spot on style example as expected.

dark brown colour, medium sized creamy beige head; aroma of dried cherry, dark chocolate, plum jam, maybe slight anise and alcoholic notes; taste of dark chocolate, cherry liqueur, slight vanilla, dried plum and raisins notes, as well as intensive spicy alcohol; excellent one!

Small cream-tan head over near-black brown beer. End of bottle solid UFO's. Woody & vinous nose, dark chocolate, nutmeg, liquorice, spirit. Rather sweet, again lots of liquorice, drop, some chocolate. Again some mild hints at vinousness (does that word exist?), faint woody wryness. Dried fruit as plums and figs, fusels; faint incense warming up. Rich & warming, vinous-oily. Medium carbonated at best. Long-lasting flavours with fiery alcoholheat. Rich beer, but a bit nondescript in the end.
