Buckle up for this juice bomb of a sour beer. The first tremor of tartness hits, then hold tight for a citrus blast of seismic proportions. Tectonic plates of lemon, tangerine, grapefruit and tart apple agitate the pie crust and biscuit backbone.

Old rating - A 330ml bottle from Love Wine in Jersey. Pours amber with a white foamy head. Aromas & tastes of grapefruit, tangerine, citrus & lemon. Nice level of sourness & tart. Very good & enjoyable, possibly my favourite Brewdog beer.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is zesty citrus with lots of tangerine, grapefruit, lime, tart lemon, soft wheaty malt, touch of yoghurt. Flavour is tart and light sweet, a little bitterness in the finish. Body is light to medium. Tart lemon, grapefruit and tangerine with lacto. Decent.

Draught. Hazy golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is grapefruit, some floral, tropical fruits and mild herbal tones. Flavour is fruity, floral, some herbal and mild grapefruity elements. As usual with the food store strength beers, a bit on the watery side and thin mouthfeel. And not that much sourness to it.

Sour ale ‘fruited’ with tangerine and grapefruit, one of BrewDog’s staples – strange that I had not encountered this one before. Anyway, thanks to Steve for sharing. Snow white, medium sized, opening, loosely structured head on a hazy yellow-golden beer. Aroma of sugared lemon juice or indeed tangerine, pomelo, lime, jasmin blossom, cereals, starfruit, Fanta Lemon, fruit yoghurt. Crisp, citric onset, fizzy carb, lots of lime, tangerine and starfruit but with this weird lemonade-like sweetness pushing through as well (again: Fanta), slick cereally core, yoghurty lactic tartness in a straightforward yet adequately refreshing way, lots of citrusiness in the end as is to be expected, but remaining remarkably low in grapefruit bitterness, while this lemonade-like sweetness continues a bit – too much so for my liking, this is clearly “the new BrewDog” catering for a much larger audience buying their products from supermarket shelves. The old BrewDog seems to have been dead for quite some years now, and this Quench Quake may be quenching and elegant, that sweetness and straightforwardness almost make it seem like some kind of alcopop for youngsters. Then again, sour ales of whatever kind were never going to be BrewDog’s forte I think – and I mean including Overworks.

Bottle. Clear gold sporting a tiny white head which is gone immediately. Aroma of lemons and tangerines. Taste of lemons, grapefruits, old apples, zest and tangerines. Spritzy, tart, acidic and sour with a dry finish. Strong carbonation. I probably would have taken this for a cider in a blind tasting. Refreshing even after doing nothing but also pretty boring.

Not the sourest sour it has to be said. Pours a clear pale gold with a small, bubbly white head, lots of effervescence, and a subtle pink grapefruit and tangerine aroma. There’s a tartness to the flavour to begin with, with sweet citrus fruit pulling through into the somewhat short finish, alongside some light biscuit malt. It’s spritzy and zesty, and refreshing but a little one-dimensional
