In tribute to Guinness Foreign Extra, a constant through Lanre Bakare’s tales of party and song, we dug into the history of the style – prominent roast barley and black malt profile, dried fruit aromas, and a sweet, rounded body – and fine-tuned it to be a respectful but distinctly Monk take on the style. Expect flavours of coffee, tobacco, and bitter chocolate rounded with notes of sweet caramel, molasses, and sweet cherry.

Glossy black, nice head of light brown foam. Smells roasty, some licorice, bitter. Fairly smooth body, nicely chewey. Taste is properly roasty, as it should be for the style. Some nice bitterness, light touch of bramble, and a scoop of coffee. Basic, yum

44cl can. A black beer with a beige head. Aroma of liquorice, dark roasted malt, melasse, coffee. Taste of sticky mid sweet dark malt, melasse, coffee, caramel, ash.

Can thanks to cgarvieuk. Appearance - jet black with an attractive tan head. Nose - tang, raisin and cake. Taste - fruitcake and light caramel. Palate - medium bodied and rich in texture. Sweet finish. Overall - good.

Pours black, small tanned head. Scent is roasty, pralines, chocolate, creamy roastyness. Taste is fairly bitter, tad dry, mild 'plastic' touch. Smoky, almost, trough the roastyness. Mild sweetness. Dried cherries.
