Bottle picked up from Mr Hop, webshop Venray, Netherlands and consumed Saturday 15th November 2025 the first anniversary of Bob's passing. We had a Greek feast tonight, Souvlaki, Greek Salad, Deep Fried Mussels with Skordalia and Lemony Potatoes, then a long video call with Scott and Mandy. Pours very dark brown verging on black with a light tan head. Mostly chocolate on the nose and in the mouth but there's also a significant amount of licorice.andca light touch of spiciness like you get with speculoos. Good but not amazing.

Bottled. A black beer with a lazing dark brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, dark chocolate, and a bit of soy sauce. The flavor is sweet with notes of dark chocolate, and roasted malt, leading to a bitter finish.

Imperial stout with oatmeal - so an oatmeal stout as well - from this brewery in Catalonia, one I never heard of until I found this bottle online. Medium sized, regular, deep mocha-beige, audibly crackling, small-bubbled, slowly breaking head on a black beer with very thin wine red edge. Aroma of hazelnut paste, thick caramel, melting 'fondant' chocolate and lots of it, cocoa nibs even if not actually used, brandy, candied banana, even a wiff of coconut, roasted cashew nuts, cappuccino, kahlua, cola, nougat, molasses, almond, hints of dry clay, liquorice, clove, even 'speculoos'. Sweet, dense onset, candied dates, fig syrup, some vague pear and banana, light carbonation but still adding some mineral effects here and there, full and oily body, bit syrupy even; thickly smeared toffeeish, cashew-nutty, dark-chocolatey malt sweetness with a bitter edge that gradually becomes more outspoken, until it competes with the sweetness (without overpowering it) in a roasted, pleasantly cappuccino-like form. Meanwhile impressions of cola, liquorice and sweet nougat dance on top, accompanying a long, bittersweet but much more sweet than bitter (even somewhat sticky), 'full' finish, where a spicy hop bitterness lurks underneath in an earthy, late but 'deep' way, accentuated by rhum-like alcohol, including a vague touch of coconut somewhere. Long, warming, boozy, thick stout, 'modern' in its sweetness and - to me as an oldtimer - a bit too much so; the roasted bitterness is certainly there, even ominously raises its head near the end, but it never manages to bring balance to this force of sweetness. Almost feels like a pastry stout even if this was not explicitly the intention - and so do way too many imperial stouts these days for me. Decent enough, but I miss the sleekness and roastiness of traditional imperial stouts and this one clearly sits on the sweetest end of the spectrum. Not a bad effort, in all, and certainly motivating to learn more about this Catalonian brewery.
