Crosse Keys Spoons. Cask. Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is softish and semi dry. Good fine carbonation. Smooth and mild dark malts, trace of roast. Some tang and an odd dark malt sweetness. Smooth finish. Fine.

500ml bottle from Morrisons, as Marstons Stout. Pours black with a thick tan head. Aromas of light coffee, light chocolate. Taste is more of the same. Pretty thin. Ok.

Cask @ Bankers Draft, Bedford. Very dark brown with a light brown head. Looks gorgeous. Not much aroma: a bit of caramel but that’s about all. There’s a savoury bitterness to it. Unbalanced but pleasant nonetheless. Aftertaste is too acrid, reminiscent of mid-afternoon diner coffee. It is a trifle artificial. The mouthfeel is slight but silky. A mixed bag but I enjoyed it all in all.

Cask @ Sir Titus Salt, Bradford. Black with a thin off-white creamy head. Light tasting stout, not much roasted malt to be found although there’s a very small sweetness about it.
