1,5 liter brown PET bottle, with a Norwegian label, as Tervete Baltika Kwas, from an immigrant's store in Jørpeland. ABV is not mentioned on the bottle, but the kwas is brewed on malts and naturally fermented. Very dark brown, nearly black, pours sparkling with a shortlived tan head. Aroma of black rye bread, with a hint of caramel. Moderate carbonation in the mouth. Medium sweet flavour with notes of sugar, caramel, prunes and dark rye bread. Fairly drinkable.

500ml bottle, kindly shared by djoeye. Fading fawn-coloured head over a deep dark ruby coloured body, scattered lacing. Appealing aromas of roasted dark bread, mid-sweet. Sweet roasted bread, earth, and prunes to the taste character. Malt-driven end, roasted. Quite refreshing, rather sweet tough. (Session with djoeye and Finn, Pivoteka H7, Tromsø 23.08.2019).

Spandert av djoeye. Delt med ham og Rune i H7. Svart. Høyt brunt skum som daler raskt og med mye lyd. Bobler på glasset. Karamellaroma. Smaken krydret karamell. Ble veldig søt.

Rerated based on checklist... Smell - medium strong, sweet, malt. Foam - carbonated, medium thick, half soft half watery, sweet, some carbonation bitterness. Taste - sweet, malt, balanced, good for kvass. Appearance - dark brown This is way darker than other variant and has lot less sweetness, more closer to beer

500ml from Mego supermarket in Cesis. Pours dark brown, lightly hazy and with a massive light brown foam head - that reduces into nothing in seconds. Nose is sweet, molasses and burnt sugar, black rye bread sweetness. Taste has also burntvsugar and caramel at first, liquorice and more intense molasses coming after. Actually has some bitterness, more like coming from roast and adding a nice extra layer of flavor. Sweetish black rye bread linger in the finish. Full on, tasty and potent kvass.

On tap at Brooklyn Pub & Whiskey Room, pours a deep dark brown with a tiny head. Aroma brings out lots of molasses, treacle toffee and bread. Flavour is like liquid molasses, with lots of semi-sweet molasses and bready malt. Lovely molasses and treacly palate. Really solid kvass.

50cl from some grocery store in Latvia. Pours dark brown with some sediments and a decent, but short-lived, beige head. Bready and malty aroma with notes of dark fruits, caramel and hints of raisins. Sweet and bready, but goes down easily. Quite pleasant stuff. --- Beer merged from original tick of Kvass Godu on 05 Nov 2016 at 14:11 - Score: 5
