This dark copper beer is a combination of ale and lager brewing techniques. This hybrid style balances subtle chocolate and coffee flavours from German malts, with the tangerine, spicy and floral flavours of two American hops – Liberty and Mt. Hood.

Can from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is malty with caramel, some toffee and a touch of fruits from the hop. Flavour is moderate bitter and light to mild sweet. Medium body. Pretty hoppy for an Alt, not a bad beer.

Can from LCB, consumed 1 month past BBE. Pours a clear amber brown with nice lasting off-white to beige head. Aroma of dusty wood, pear, malt, citrus. Taste of malts, caramel, flora, citrus peel, earthiness. Medium bodied, moderate bitterness. Maybe a touch lacking in the finish but its certainly a tasty malty beer through to mid-palate

Can from Cork & Cask. Clear ruby body with a thin off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of caramel and woody malt. Flavour of nuts and cranberry. Thin to medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. A touch sharper than my favourite altbiers but it’s a decent effort at a style I love. Bellfield have really upped their game recently.
