In the spring of 2019, we received a series of very old Oloroso, PX and Amontillado barrels through a local Jerez cooperage. The aromas were a mix of typical fine sherry notes and toasted, peated characteristics, which we have never experienced before. However, after a year of bottle conditioning – because of the higher peated aromas, albeit balanced – we decided to release this bottle not as a Zenne y Frontera, but as a peated geuze.

Bottle. Hazy golden color with white head. Aroma is fruity, sweetish, funky. Taste is the same, just mild iodine. Good stuff!

Tart, funky and slightly heavy with some sourness, hints of oaky sweetness and faint peaty smokiness. Interesting, slightly more complex than your regular geuze.

Quite good, even stable off-white head over lively, finely carbonated ochre beer. Horseblanket, farmyard, immortelles, and a hint of woodfire - the peating, no doubt. Peated, woodfire, horseblanket, old wood, wheat. Very well carbonated, restrained acidburn and -thinning. I love smoked/peated beers as a rule, and I adore gueuze. But somehow, the combination of both doesn't seem to work. And I keep wondering where the sherry was. Txs to Stef!

Bottle: Poured a hazy yellow color lambic with a large foamy head with OK retention and some light lacing. Aroma of funky ester with some oak notes and light peated notes. Taste is also a mix of funky ester with some peated notes and oak/woody notes with some tart notes. Body is about full for style with good carbonation. Nice lambic with a good level of complexity but I would have liked the peated notes to be more present.

Original review text: Backlog from 11 april 2024. Re-entered review because of a little problem caused by wrong Ratebeer merging. Bottle (blend 63) from pack at 3 Fonteinen webshop. Color: Slightly hazy golden, thin white head. Aroma: Fruity, subtle funky. Taste: Fruity gooseberry, grape, citrus notes, hay, some rural funk, oak wood and subtle bit sweetish Oloroso notes. Moderate to over moderate tart, light to moderate sweetish. Medium body, below average carbonation. Very nice, I'm curious how the second bottle will age in the cellar.
