The Yakima Chief Hops lab team has pioneered cutting-edge analysis techniques with the goal of unlocking maximum aroma potential. There are hundreds of novel compounds present in hops and the YCH scientists have been attempting to understand which make their way into finished beer, ultimately contributing to the citrus and tropical aromatics we love. With data from their recent studies at hand, they set out to engineer a hop pellet that "maximizes the synergies between impactful aromatic components, monoterpene alcohols, esters, and polyfunctional thiols." Cryo Pop™ is the explosively aromatic result.

We teamed up with our friend Kyle at Horus Aged Ales to explore this innovative new ingredient, crafting a Double IPA recipe with a simple and soft malt bill meant for the hops to shine upon. bierpop! pours a hazy, deep yellow and wastes no time presenting vibrant notes reminiscent of a pineapple and mango smoothie. The initial burst of tropicality clears the way for supporting aromas of summer picnic watermelon, peach rings, and citrus slushy. A generous portion of flaked wheat lays the groundwork for a fluffy mouthfeel, allowing bierpop! to finish medium-bodied with just a touch of candied sweetness.

Panda 🐼 at home thanks to Wingman. A hazed golden orange coloured pour with a decent white cap. Aroma is big dank hop, green hop, creamy wheat, hockey puck, plastic. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, wheaty grains, big dank hop, green hop, plastic hockey puck, sticky pine. Palate is semi sweet, pithy, moderate fine carbonation. Good stuff.

Taste comprises bitter orange, ripe tropical fruits, melon, pine dusting, weed, spruce tips. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with weedy come juicy hop bitterness. Tidy DIPA if a little short of top draw.

4 pack canned 08/03/21, drunk most recently on 8/17/21.
Moderately hazy, bronze-golden with a rapidly-dissipating, white head.
Good mix of juice and pine with more acidic lemon-lime character and a mix of both honey and biscuit-like maltiness.
Quite assertively bitter in the mouth. Moreso when young (to the point where I enjoyed it very little). With another ten days of age on it, it's much juicier though still retains its bitter edge. Lime and pine are strong, with a soft, malty, well-attenuated texture. Probably fine if you're a non-NEIPA type of person, as this is an excellent hybrid boasting plentiful acidity. But for me it's just a little too much fatiguing bitterness.

Pours murky dark pear into a tulip. White soapy head with little retention recedes to hug rim. Dusty melon, lychee and caramel aromas. Soft with sweet lychee, guava and melon front to back. Dry, lasting dusty tropical fruit fuzz finish. Nicely done.
