A flashy Omnipollo can containing a 'desserty' interpretation of a raspberry sour, with added lactose and vanilla; thanks to Goedele for sharing at Kantien in Ghent. Thin and mousy, pale lilac-hued, open, eventually all but disappearing head leaving behind some flat dots in the middle, deep cloudy purple robe with lilac hue, looking quite intense on the raspberries. This is proven by the nose: a massive amount of ripe red raspberries indeed, raspberry coulis almost, complete with those sweet tomato- and green raspberry bush-like effects typifying a beer with actual raspberries, surrounded by impressions of sour yoghurt, beetroot soup, raw rhubarb, lemon juice and indeed noticeable, albeit subtle vanilla. Sour onset, strong sour raspberry effect with sharp lemony-acidic edges but also very yoghurty in a sharply lactic way, the yoghurty effect in this case enhanced by the added lactose, which adds body and provides some sweetness against the acidity of the fruit. Carbonation remains softish, with a slick wheaty backbone completely soaked in sourness with that lightly tempering lactose sweetishness on top. Juicy, sourly quenching finish with a tannic, almost sesame seed-like touch from the raspberry seeds, but the vanilla gets a bit lost. More vanilla could have made this sour ale even more interesting I think and I wouldn't even have minded some more lactose, decadent as it may be, but there is no doubt that there is a fullness and fleshiness to this beer that makes it qualify as a high standard raspberry sour. Omnipollo did a real good job here, but the crème brûlée thing is best ignored, apart from the fact that it establishes the pastry aspect of most of Omnipollo's beers.

330 ml can. Unclear dark red, big rosé head. Cranberry, red currant, cassis, lime, light vanilla, raspberry. Very sour. Full bodied, oily texture, soft bodied, dry sour finish. Nice complex aroma, however a bit too sour.

Raspberry slush. That is more or less what was. Served with slush. Raspberry all the way with some vanilla in the back. [On tap at Omnipollos in Gothenburg, Sweden]

Interesting combination of flavors but too much sweetness for my liking.

From can. Dark ruby red purple color with purple pink head. Fruity aroma, light malty and yeasty, tart berries - raspberries, some sour yogurt notes, vanilla too. Sweet and acidic taste like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.
