09/04 A 0.5 l bottle brought from Trondheim by my friend Dijana, thanks! It poured black body, even darker than their Porter is. Small dark brown head. A bit of coffee, smoked wood, smoked ham, alcohol and roasted sugar in its aroma. Flavor was coffee dominated, some roasted sugar, caramel, smoked stuff and licorice. Alcohol is very present, maybe hidden by a few percent, but it doesn’t mean much. Robust in body, quite hard to drink, sip by sip, it’s not so enjoyable or interesting as one could expect. Still quite good dessert beer.

No head, red-shot fully opaque brown-black beer. Alcohol, liquorice, drop , fusels, bananaester, aftershave. Chocolate, coffee, alcohol & fusels, fruity esters, wood, liquorice and red, dried fruit. Very well-bodied, slick, alcoholwarming, velvety texture. Seriously good beer, but in all honesty, I preferred the First Edition. Huge thanks to Glenn for sharing!

Bottled(500ml). -Courtesy of heavy (huge thanks!), shared with him and Doggythedog.
Deep black coloured, medium sized dark brown head, light smoked nose with touch of alcohol and chocolate. First of all alcohol is a way too exposed here. Roasted malt, pleasant coffee and chocolate taste with touch of licorice and spicy salty finish. Step back in comparison with First edition. Batch No. 03660

Huge huge thanks to heavy who shared it with me and ogivlado after a friend of his brought a bottle from Trondheim. Poured a black body with a small, thick light brown head that stood there for awhile. Strong nose of alcohol and coffee, light smoke. Fine sweet taste of instant coffee (or of that which stays in the filter). A bit overwhelming, alcohol quite noticable, some chocolate. Slightly salty going to the aftertaste, a bit dusty. Very warming. Roasty. Some raisins. Quite a bit cruder than the 1 but could be lovely with some age.

Bottle. (beer rating #4000) First I have to mention that since I tasted a freshly bottled one of this more than a year ago, I’ve been thinking it’s too much on the coffee-side, and too much on the booze-side. Having tasted it regularly since then, it has been amazing to experience how it has mellowed and smoothened, especially the last few months, and I’m very glad I changed my mind and cellared a few. It pours a jet black body topped by a small tan head that disappeares a bit quickly. Dark coffee and booze does most of the aroma work, but there’s also a good dash of dark chocolate, dark sugars, dark dried fruits and a lovely touch of salty licorice. It’s smooth and quite effervescent on the palate, full-bodied and dangerously warming, but I like that. It’s quite sweet, but with so much alcohol that it’s not cloying at all, loads of coffee chime in, and it’s not soft on the dark chocolate and licorice either. Some molasses as well. The flavor lasts for a long time, with the same flavors found initially, but the coffee and alcohol burn just won’t go away. There’s probably too much alcohol in this one, but I’ve served it to both pale lager-loving friends, mother and father in law, neighbours and work mates, and they all enjoyed it. (090323)

(Bottle on 2009-02-17) Black. Small tan coloured head. Sweet liquorice and roastedness in aroma. Almost burning and dry palate with little carbonation. Roastedness, alcohol, bitterness, cough mixture, saltiness, liquorice and coffee in taste. Alcohol, roastedness and coffee grounds in aftertaste.

Bottle thanks to ilovedarkbeer. 2/5/09 tasting. Pours thick and black with a small brown head. The beer is completely black and leaves a film of dark brown all around the side of the glass when swirled. Aroma of chocolate, thick and gooey caramel, banana and vanilla with a light alcohol presence (all things considered) that comes across as rum. Taste is sweet with chocolate, cocoa and a bit of well contained heat. A touch of smoke and dark fruits as well. The alcohol is really well hidden for such a big and new beer. Syrupy mouthfeel and light bubbles. This beer reminds you of its potency after sipping with a sense of alcohol traveling up your throat and into your nasal cavities giving you a bit of a nasal burn after drinking (not smelling). Should be good for many years to come.

Bottle:
Pours black with a small head. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, alcohol and loads of liquorice. Flavour is roasty with a lot of really salty liquorice. Rough and boozy. Way too young at the moment.

#04591. Sheer black color with an incredibly dark creamy tan head. The alcohol is nose startling. Aromas of coffee, toasted malt and arguably treacle. Very full body with mildly creamy carbonation. Flavor is coffee and dark toast - but very smooth dark toast. Develops chocolate and mild heat with time. Finishes dry and coffee, with cacao traces. Mind blowing.
