English Barleywine-Style Ale
Brewed in the English barleywine tradition, Brick Kiln’s deep mahogany hue gives way to aromas and flavors of English toffee, caramel, and raisin. This beer is named in tribute to the Southeast Ohio brick industry. The kilns of Athens Brick Company, established in 1890, once operated down the street from our current production brewery.

12.7oz capped bottle. Vintage 2014. Shared by beerbeggar. Surprisingly not old or big. It’s not astringent, it’s not "big" or anything bad. But it’s also not particularly anything, a barleywine with a little age but not offputting. Just doesn’t stand out but nothing bad. Dark amber brown color.

375ml bottle. Dusty muffled nose hiding strong flavours that appear later in the mouth. Nutty and bold, smoothly carbonized, full-bodied. Very good, if it weren’t for the odd nose.

12 oz. bottle from a trade with Treebute. Dark, ruby brown, with a medium, bubbly, tan head. Nose is maple syrup, walnuts, resin, burnt caramel, and a bit of rye. Sweet and malty up front, with a long, bitter aftertaste. Medium to heavy body, syrupy, and a bit thin. This is an aromatic and complex beer, but the unpleasant aftertaste keeps it from excellence.

375mL bottle, pours a deep dark caramel brownish orange with a small beige head. Aroma brings out brown sugar, bready malt and some toffee. Flavour is exactly the same, with bready malt, toffee, and a touch of brown sugar. Not a whole lot of complexity but it's cohesive and well-balanced. Decent.
