English Barleywine-Style Ale
Brewed in the English barleywine tradition, Brick Kiln’s deep mahogany hue gives way to aromas and flavors of English toffee, caramel, and raisin. This beer is named in tribute to the Southeast Ohio brick industry. The kilns of Athens Brick Company, established in 1890, once operated down the street from our current production brewery.

Bottle: Poured a clear copper color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of dry caramel malt with grainy notes. Taste is also dominated by caramelized malt notes with some cereal and grainy notes. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Glad somebody tried to do a barleywine that is not reliant on hops or huge amount of residual sugars. Malt base could be refined but still an enjoyable beer.

Bottle during RBWG Booze Buse 20/02/15 thanks to whomever supplied this juan. Chestnut brown with moderate beige edgeing. Nose is vanilla, nutty, dark fruit rinds, red grapefruit, caramel. Taste comprises sticky toffee pudding, dates, dark fruit peel, malt notes. Medium +, fine carbonation, semi drying close with light booze strokes. Ok barley wine, easy drinker, lacks a little depth though.

bottle from kihoskh.color is quite brown, dark brown, head is nutty light brown, very dark for a barley wine. Althouh from ohio, this one is brewed european style and with european ingredients. aroma of caramel, toffee and malts. Flavor is spicy, malty, toffee, bitter caramel, cocoa powder, quite dry and dark chocolateish for a bw. in fact, i’d call this an american strong ale, something a bit more generic. alc. is well hidden.
