Pulled out of my cellar. Dated 2001. Cork broke in half and had to push other half into bottle. Hazy dark amber with absolutely no head. Aroma is like wine. Taste is old dry wine with a very astringent feel. It HAD to be better than this in it's day.

Bottle, vintage 2001. Pours slightly hazy dark ruby with small, airy beige head. Clear aroma of malt and fruit, with touches of yeast and hints of hops. Bitter and dusty flavour with notes of fruit and nuts and touches of roasted malt. Bitter and roasty aftertaste with touches of acidic hints. Really nice. Especially that it is old. I just have a weak spot for old English ales past the BBD.

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks zvikar. 2001 bottle. Murky brown. Lovely aroma of malt, chocolate, lots of dark fruits, a bit of sherry and liqueur. Sweetish-sourish flavor, malt and fruity with some cookie notes and chocolate. Interesting.

275 ml bottle from 2001 sampled in 2006. Beautiful almost clear copper red body with a small tan head. Vinous aroma with dry fruit, slightly acidic berries, oak and noble caramel. Flavor is sweet, smooth malty, dry fruit, acidic berries, wood and pleasant oxidized old sherry. Fine body and wonderful aftertaste. A classic made for sipping.

Cask. Slightly farty, vinous, acidic aroma. Dark chestnut colour. Big-bubbled head. Full mouthfeel, slightly syrupy. Acidic flavour, a little sweet, woody, earthy. Peppery, warming aftertaste. 6 3 7 3 15 Bottle, 9%. 2001 version, 19 years old. Weak fruity aroma, some oxidised notes, but not as much as expected. Almost clear chestnut colour. Very small head. The flavour is very sweet, but it is too dusty and oxidised for me. 6 3 6 3 15

[only 2 years old] The aroma is fruity with notes of grapes, yeast, wine, and alcohol. The color is dark brown - opaque with no head. The flavor is round and rather sweet and fruity with notes of plums. It is rather complex, a little acidic with no bitterness. It has a good palate, but it is very light for a 9% ABV. I had expected more, but maybe that's because of the youth of my sample.
