Dark, intense and full-flavoured, it is our tribute to the Vikings and their cultural legacy in Orkney. The first thing to touch the islands would have been their long ship's Dragonhead.

Dragonhead is brimming over with rich roast malt and roast barley flavours. Aromas of bitter chocolate, roast coffee and spicy dark fruits are complemented by a complex, bitter blend of hop varieties.

Hops: Challenger, East Kent Goldings
Malts: Pale, Crystal, Chocolate, Malted Wheat, Black, Roasted Barley

I thought this one was a little watery. Dark pour. Nose and taste is light chocolate malts and bread. Rated 2/1/03

Bottled (Bierzwerg, BB 05/2010)
Dark brown, almost opaque color, firm beige head, lace. Sticky odd herbal-vegetable aroma with some cold coffee. Flavor has also similar strange herbal grainy notes. Also coffee beans, dark malts and lactose. Decent body for 4% beer. Cooked vegetables or beans - are really strange in this beer. Bottle was not ok?

Black, small tan head. Aroma has some roast and dark fruits but is mainly the surprising walnut oil mentioned below. Taste is slightly sweet and a little singed, but again very nutty. Finish has some malt bitterness and smoke. Remarkably complex for a stout of this weight.

Bottle: Literally black with some ruby sparks, stable tanned head with a good lace; walnutty-oily nose with a sweetish roast-malty background and a subtle fruitiness; drier bitter-sweet flavour, light bodied; lingering, even a bit drier, light roast-malty finish with hints of huile de noix, again. A bit thin, but good, no doubt.......

Bottle from Corks, Bristol. Jet black in colour with a big, tight tan head. Big, roast aroma with plenty of dark chocolate and some prunes. Flavours of black coffee, more chocolate, a hint of lactose and ashy dry finish. Very good.

(bottle) Dark brown colour with a dense and thick foamy head. Slightly sweet and moderately roasted dark malty aroma with notes of (milk-)chocolate, leather, mocha, peat and subtle berry-fruity notes. Moderately bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a smooth carbonation. Dry mouthfeel, moderately roasted and peaty malty taste with notes of chocolate and subtle fruits; dry and moderately roasty and hop bitter, also a bit slim finish. Still a very aromatic and peaty Stout. 09.XI.09

Compact 500ml bottle carried back home from Centra Colosseum Park, Oslo. The beige-brownish head stays well and is packed with small dimples. More or less Devil black in body appearance. Nice label, too. Prominent smell of dark chocolate with hints of liquorice. Taste of peatsmoke malts and roasted grain, paired with hints of leafy hops developing into a relatively short bitter ending. Dry textured. Good, but a bit thin bodied. However, a beer that grows on your palate (at home, TromsΓΈ 23.10.2009).

Bottle. A gorgeous looking black beer with a dense. finger-thick, tan head. Peat, licorice, sea, some dried fruits, beefstock, tar and burnt malts in the aroma, quite complex, but sort of too much on the burnt side. The flavor is much the same, but troubled with some vegetal notes. Medium body, rather dry, and a roasted bitterness in the finish. I’m not certain if I like the flavor of this one, but the aroma is rather fancy. 090724
