Perhaps you’ve heard of a Imperial IPA masked as a Christmas Beer in a silly attempt to change a beloved tradition for sweet Holiday brews. This Imperial IPA is actually a no BS beer – truthfully very bitter and in all earnestly a bit on the heavy side. All in all brewed for all occasions – celebrating your firstborn, sending the kids away for summer camp, it’s Monday and this beer is scoring 100.

200ml on tap, nightcap at Mikkeller Bar. Bubbly ring to edge of the glass. Unclear orange coloured body. Fresh floral aroma together with fruity hops. Dried fruits like apricot to the fore followed by the taste of bitter fruity hops with alcohol warmth. Oily palate. Really a treat to drink this one (04.11.2011).

On Tap @ Schoukjelleren, Oslo. This is a cloudy light peach-orange beer with a nice light fluffy heavy lacing off-white head. The aroma is fruity and malty sweet, lots of nice peachy-hops and hints of grass and apricot. Lively carbonation level with a mild oily to light sticky mouthfeel. Good and classic DIPA flavors; strong malt-base with a nice powerful and mouthdrying flavors. Lot's of apricot and tones of caramel and hedge in the finish with a lightly warming alcohol aftertaste. A classic not over complicated DIPA. Quite nice stuff.

Pours hazy gold into a snifter. Off-white head with good retention recedes leaving sheet lacing. Dusty caramel, apricot, mango and resin aromas. Well balanced with sweet caramel and candy corn alongside bitter grapefruit pith. Dry, lasting grapefruit and resin finish. A bit pricey.

On tap at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing. Confirmed that this was NOT the 10% version. Pours with a hazy golden body with a lasting white head and good lace. Aromas are hoppy, malty, tea, orange, medium esters and some grapefruit. Flavors of orange marmalade, tea, tangerine, caramel, citrus and bready. Medium bubbles. Lasting bready flavors. Dry, lightly warming.

The beer pours a rich golden shade of orange with a frothy, off-white head head. It’s quite cloudy and lacing clings to the glass walls. The aroma is quite hoppy, though it could be punched up a notch or two. The hops tend toward tangerines, pineapples, strawberries, pine and marijuana. There’s some sugary caramel underneath, but it’s not too strong. The malt sweetness picks up on the palate, and the beer is fairly sweet. The hops don’t quite reign things in enough, but they do their level best and the finish is fairly bitter. Unfortunately, the flavor also washes out a bit somehow towards the end. Mouthfeel starts full but thins a bit. Carbonation is relatively low. There’s a touch of booze, not bad nor good for an 8% abv beer. This is tasty stuff, but it doesn’t blow me away, and I’m a bit disappointed, given the high price tag.

500mL bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours a cloudy orangey amber with a big white head - tons of sediment floating about. Very doughy, resinous hops on the nose, with some tropical fruits and yeast. Flavour is also very doughy, and quite spicy, with orange peel and maybe some coriander - the spicy hops transforms into an astringent bitterness, which lingers on the aftertaste. Enjoyable, but too spicy and doughy for it to be anything exceptional.

Bottled. A hazy dark golden beer with an off-white head. The aroma has notes of hops and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of hops, spices, and malt, leading to a very bitter finish. Quite raw.
