A dark brew, hardy and warming with a slightly sweet malty character balanced by a pleasant hoppiness. Blackfriar is known as a 'wee heavy'. Whilst not an international classification this term has been used in Scotland for generations to describe strong ales

Dark copper, still slightly transparent. Dense slightly off-white head, good persistence and nice lacing. Aroma shows earthy malt sweetness, notes of chocolate and a bit of spiciness. Not incredibly intense but very nice and clean. Taste is mainly malty sweet with caramel, toffee and slight earthiness. Slightest spiciness and maybe some fruity hints. Bitterness is low, and pretty much just bringing balance. Medium bodied with average carbonation, slightly creamy. Nice scotch ale

Bottle at some random Scottish place in Tallinn. Pours dark opaque amber with beige head. The head stays for a second. Aroma is sweet, caramel, malt. Flavor follows mostly the nose, but also has some bitterness. Overall: nice brew.
