Barley wines are traditionally hefty brews, but ours is downright excessive. The huge maltiness of this beer is only tamed by an equally prodigious addition of hops, creating a rich, slightly sweet, caramel-hued ale infused with assertive bitterness and bright hop notes, all culminating in a pleasing dryness. While it will evolve into an even more glorious brew with age, this beer's delicious onslaught of flavors will seriously challenge your ability to wait any longer to drink it.

Poured from a 650ml bottle, vintage 2013, 11.6 % abv, that I bought at Systembolaget in Växjö a while ago. Deep amber-red body, opaque last pour. Beige head blanketing the glass. Sherry nose, toffee and dark fruits. Rich in flavour bringing details of dried fruits, almond, bread, herbal hops and brown malts. Prolonged ending with integrated alcohol. Well bodied. A typical late eve sipper enjoyed for an hour or so (Tromsø 17.04.2015).

Bottle (2013 Vintage) from Toft Vin, Copenhagen - dark brown coloured pour with cream head. Pretty sweet malty aroma and taste, toasty, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, dried fruity and nutty, some spices (nutmeg) on the palate, light herbal notes, medium body and low carbonation, boozy finish. Lovely.

Poured from 1 pint 6 fl oz bottle (2013 classic release). Hazy light amber brown with off-white head. Aroma of caramel and bread malt, mild hops, alcohol. Flavour has an overpowering piney bitter finish with a little kick of alcohol. Maybe it was just this bottle, but the balance on this one is pretty off in my opinion.

22 ounce bottle. 2013 vintage. Lightly hazy copper red color with a small tan head with nice clinging lace. Rich sweet caramel malt nose with notes of brown sugar and dried fruit. Rich bittersweet toasted malt flavor has a complex spicy hop character. As barley wines go, this has a lot of hops.
