Thanks Simon. Mild smooth beginning. Creamy beginning. Caramel, soft grain. Hazelnuts with a creamy fruity finish. Soft grain, hints of red fruits, mild grainy hazelnuts in the end. Nice.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford – as Cotleigh Old Buzzard. Pours a dark reddish brown with a small cream head, good lacing and low carbonation. Aroma is creamy with roasted malts. Oddly enough in the mouth the first impression is juicy fruitiness, but that is quickly swallowed by peppers and spices (liquorice, aniseed, olde english spangles). The roasted malts are still there with hints of chocolate and toffee. This is what an Old Ale should taste like.

Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Pours a clear dark mahogany colour with a thin creamy beige head. Aromas of dark fruit, caramel, toffee and burnt bread. Taste is the same notes with some roasted malts, light chocolate, nuts and a lingering hop bitterness on the finish. Light to medium bodied with a very slight oily mouthfeel. Not bad.

On cask at the Standing Order as Old Buzzard. Appearance - deep cloudy brown. Golden chinks on the periphery. Neat fluffy head. Nose - burnt toffee edging into molasses. Burnt bread and stewed apple notes in there too. Taste - yeah, burnt bread and just about getting into molasses again. Palate - medium bodied, rich but not too cloying. Overall - good.
