A warming dark beer that’s perfect for the colder months. The rich malt base is layered with plums, cherries and blackcurrants, topped off with a sprinkling of cinnamon and lemon zest. The end result is a hearty beer packed with caramelised sugar, festive fruit flavours and a toasted finish.

Bottle. Evil Eye Lounge, York. Clear, very dark red. Bubbly, filmy, dense, tan head. Nose has ripe, dark berry fruits. Soft liquorice. Granary bread crust. Some fresh coffee grinds. Just a hint of cinnamon, which is ok by me. Smells lovely. Bit of wood ash on the end. Taste is fruity, woody, soft bitter. Ashy dry. Lovely, rounded, smooth mouthfeel. Nice hop burps! Finishes long, soft, fruity, roast bitter. Really good, smooth, tasty porter.

Bottle from Oddbins, Clifton, Bristol. Dark brown in colour, with reddish undertones and a decent, tan, head. Rich aroma of dark fruits, plain chocolate, roasted malts and orange peel. Full mouth feel, with more fruit and chocolate, a trace of spice, sweet cakey malts, leading to a dryish finish with touch of hop and some lingering boozy warmth. An excellent winter beer.
