4.10% ABV bottle (500ml), not the 3.50% advertised on here. This bottle had a whole month of its best before date remaining when I poured in into my Abbot Ale glass tankard, my current favourite tasting vessel. This beer is called dark for a reason: it’s dark! It’s very dark actually and with a deep, full head of khaki/dark biege. The smell was of dark chocolate and bits of coffee, earthy too. The taste was also chocolate and coffee, no earth though. I also found some liquorice/fennel type flavours as the beer warmed in the mouth. Easy to drink and on the sweetish side of British beer scene, this isn’t a dry, bitter beer at all, just a very pleasant ale.

Bottle from Tesco
Appearance - Black, ruby edges, large rocky tan head, good lacing.
Aroma - Roasted malt, bit of chocolate.
Taste - Roasted malt, chocolate, bitter hops, charcoal, burnt wood, hint of dust.
Palate - Light body and texture, soft carb. Very dry finish, roast bitter, earthy, rough, bit metallic. Not pleasant.
Overall - Flavoursome for 4.1% but has offputting charcoal notes and the finish is harsh which spoils the beer. Not keen on this one - last 1/4 of bottle drain pour.

Dark brown color, almost black, with medium sized head. Aroma of chocolate at first, then some light coffee, roasted malts, cream; very light yeast. Strong flavor of chocolate and coffee, roasted malt; the lean body and dry mouthfeel actually enhance the experience; correct bitterness. Balanced and fairly good.

Clear but very dark brown beer. Malty with a streak of dark toffee. Minerals and slightly toasted malt in the mid. Smooth and not at all bitter. Good flavours for it’s modest abv.
