Draught at Row 34 on 8/15/16.
Slightly hazy, burnished copper body is topped by an off-white head showing moderate retention.
Graham cracker, banana, mild coffee and a bit of toffee comprise the balanced nose. It has some hefe elements and some brown ale elements and seems like a very light example of a dunkelweisse. Not as much hefe character, of course, with fairly sweet malts and little, if any hop notes (maybe a hint of citrus). No alcohol or flaw.
Again it’s got banana and weak coffee in the flavor, with brown sugar-like sweetness and tons of other fruity esters. Tending sweet, but not overly so, it has a moderate, modestly-engaging carbonation. It’s interesting to see the traditional wheat beer influences on a brown ale, but ultimately I don’t think they’ve stumbled on to anything too groundbreaking, being overly sweet and fruity, but with less pleasing texture, appearance and aroma than an actual dunkelweizen.
