Bottle from a shop in Durbuy - many thanks to Anke! Pours hazy dark brown with a big, slowly thinning, frothy, off-white head; little lacing. Aroma of dried fig, cookie dough, candi sugar, caramel, milk chocolate, perfume, orange peel & herbs. Taste is light malty sweet, a bit caramelly & chocolatey with a restrained nutty edge; making way for a medium herbal bitterness that is peppery & perfumey but, due to its brown character, vaguely tea- & dough-like as well; fruity notes of plum & orange & sourish berry, toasty effect too. Dryish, herbal & grassy hoppy finish, lingering spices, dough, sugar. Medium body, slick-oily texture, lively carbonation. Although 'Brown Tripel' is a contradiction in terms anyway, the aroma manages to keep a balance, but the taste tilts it more towards a blonde beer with 'brown' accents. Not that bad in any case.
