Five special malts make up Rebellion Black's deeply comlex grist. Hot wort percolates through a bed of cocoa nibs on cascade hops infusing our stout with dark chocolate smoothness, in subtle contrast to the coffee like intensity from the roasted malts.

Tap at the Rebellion Taproom. Poured a clear dark brown colour with an everlasting frothy, light tan head. The aroma, is roasty malt, light smoke. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter, light sweet, with a smooth, rich, light caramel, earthy, liqourice bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle from The Hive, Crowthorne. Aroma of sweet berries and watery chocolate milk. Opaque cola brown. Thick frothy beige head. A sour tube to the sweet taste. Could be visa versa. Indistinct. The sweetness eventually prevails. Develops a nougat streak. Berries and chocolate milk as per aroma. Light-medium bodied. Watered down creamy mouthfeel. Fizzy carbonation. Weak stout. Overly sweet for. Another beer that really doesn't do it for me from Rebellion but at least it has some character.

330ml bottle [courtesy of Grumbo - cheers Graham!]. Jet black colour with average to huge, frothy to creamy, slowly osteoporosing, minimally lacing, beige head. Roasty dark malty aroma, minimally metallic, hoppy overtones with a touch of iron, rust, hints of coffee. Taste is bitter, roasty dark malty, hints of coffee, a minimally grainy touch of coffee surrogate, more metallic than fruity metallic, hoppy overtones with a touch of iron - blueberry in homoeopathic dosis; minimally watery. A bit anaemic overall.

Aroma of milk chocolate, sweet light roasted malt, lactose, light coffee and caramel plus a hint of nut. Medium plus sweetness, very light bitterness. Moderate body, smooth texture, very soft carbonation. Pretty decent for Buckinghamshire #100.

33cl bottle from the brewery. A glossy black pour with a thin beige head; aroma of fresh green hops with some underlying chocolate malts; sweet chocolate syrup taste with some purple fruit and a light bitterness; and lingering lactic chocolate.

330ml bottle in Bootlegger, High Wycombe on 2nd April 2018. Black, as the name suggests, tanned topping that hung around. Typical UK Stout, plenty of semi-sweet maltiness tempered with a mini hop bitterness to add with the light bitterness of the over roasted malts. Chocolate notes come to the fore as it warms in the glass, enjoyed it.

Taste comprises chocoalte biiscuit, dark malts, light charr, dried fruits, raisins, light spice balance, liqourice. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close. Decent enough stout.
